Optomap® Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging
The most important part of your annual comprehensive eye exam is checking the health of your eyes. Dr. Allspaw does a thorough examination of their external and internal health.
Looking inside the eye to evaluate the retina can be difficult due to the small size of our pupils. A view can be achieved with dilation, but it has side-effects of blurry vision and light sensitivity for several hours afterward.
Dr. Allspaw recommends annual screening with Optomap® Ultra-Widefield Imaging. It takes less than one second per eye to take an image of 82% of the retina! Nothing touches your eye, and there are no side-effects! This is a great test for all ages. Check out the video below.
The doctor will review your images with you and the images stay on your file for future reference, allowing any pathology to be tracked over time.
***There are certain cases in which the doctor may still recommend dilation, but this is at the doctor’s discretion.
